The Painters of La Vida Llena

Expression Through Painting

When Shirl Brainard arrived at La Vida Llena Retirement Community in 2007, she found no painting group. But she knew there were many artists at the retirement community. So she started one. Now the group has their second show ever of selected painting at High Desert Art & Frame during the month of August. An opening reception with the artists is scheduled for Friday, August 6, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. as part of First Friday Artscrawl.

In addition to the 18 acrylic, oil, and watercolor paintings (and some pencil drawings), one of the artists, Betty Jo Sargent will sign and sell copies of her latest book, an illustrated version of The Owl & The Pussycat by Edward Lear. Sargent uses cut paper and colored ink to envision antics portrayed in the fanciful poem.

Shirl Brainard, 80, is mostly a representational
watercolorist, though her earlier works were
acrylic abstracts. Her biggest graticication is her
college textbook, A DESIGN MANUAL, which
culminated after her years of experience as a
painter and community college teacher. She is
one of the founders of Corrales Bosque Gallery and
was a member for 13 years.
