George Pearce

Bio

 

George loves traveling the American West, photographing its vast landscape and people. He grew up in Port Chester, New York, but has lived in New Mexico since 1965, following a U.S. Army stint at Seoul, South Korea. After 33 years at Kirtland AFB, in Albuquerque, as a civilian public affairs officer. He retired in 1997 and began a quest to “re-learn” the art of photography in the digital age. At Kirtland AFB, he spent some 15 years as the base’s director of Public Affairs.

 

He currently does marketing and public relations for Chavez-Grieves Consulting Engineers in Albuquerque.

 

A recent success includes a first place award in the 2010 New Mexico Magazine Photo Contest. In 2010 he was named a finalist for the 2010 "Photographers Forum" Magazine photo contest. He was also a finalist in 2009, when one of his prints was included in the magazine's annual hardcover publication.

 

One of his prints was chosen in a juried competition exhibited at the first New Mexico Photographic Art Show (ANMPAS) at the NM State Fairgrounds in December 2009. Two prints were chosen for the ANMPAS 2010 and 2011 shows. Other honors include five of his photographs being selected for exhibit at the 2007 Calgary International Photo Exposition, being named a finalist for the 2005 Kodak-National Park Service Photo Contest, and as a prize winner in the 2004 and 2005 “New Mexico Magazine” Photo Contests.

 

His prints have been exhibited three times at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History Gallery, New Mexico Symphony Orchestra Gallery, the Anderson Gallery, the Fisher Gallery, New Mexico Art League Gallery, the New Mexico Arts Alliance Gallery, and the Harwood Gallery, all in Albuquerque. A photograph of the Sandia Mountains in autumn was one of 30 selected for Albuquerque’s first digital billboard series, seen on 8 billboards throughout Albuquerque. His prints were also shown at the Art Gallery 66 in Bernalillo, New Mexico.

 

Albuquerque’s Los Griegos Library gave George a one-man showing of 16 photographs in January 2009. The library also gave him a showing of 20 photos in September 2010. He twice was named the Artist of the Month at the High Desert Art & Frame Gallery in Albuquerque, with 17 of his photographs displayed.  He also had a one-man showing of eight photos in March 2012 at Albuquerque’s North Valley Library.  On a side note, George was awarded the 2012 Steve Schiff Kirtland AFB Advocacy Award by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce at its annual Armed Forces Banquet.
